Russia's white sugar exports surge in Q1 2017: report

Russia's white sugar exports reached 105,900 mt during the first three months of 2017, a major increase compared with only 1,000 mt exported during the same period last year, according to various news reports. In March, Russia exported 45,300 mt of white sugar.

From August 2016 to March 2017, Russia exported 205,100 mt of sugar, compared with 7.7 million mt exported during the same period last year, data from Russia's Federal Customs Service showed, Russia's Institute for Agricultural Market Studies reported. Russian sugar exports have surged so far in 2017 due to record sugar production during the 2016-17 season (October-September), Ukrainian sugar producers union Ukrsukor reported. Russia produced a record 6.1 million mt of sugar in 2016-17.
