Ikar Raises Estimate for Russia’s Beet-Sugar Production, Exports

(Bloomberg) -- Estimate for 2016-17 season started in August boosted to 5.82m tons vs 5.6m tons, Evgeny Ivanov, analyst at Institute for Agricultural Market Studies in Moscow, says by phone.

• Outlook improved as weather in Nov.-Dec. didn’t change sharply between frosts and thaws, preserving quality of beets in storage
• Farmers managed to harvest beets from “practically all” area they had planted
• Russia may export 142,000 tons of beet sugar this season, up from 40,000-80,000 tons expected earlier
• NOTE: That woud be highest since 2011-12 season
