Russian import duty fixed

Raw sugar import duty in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus in April will be set at US$203 per mt, the same as in March, the Russian sugar producers association Soyuzrossakhar said, Dow Jones reports. Soyuzrossakhar said raw sugar imports in the current marketing year were likely to rise to 600,000-650,000mt because of a smaller beet harvest. In December 2013-February 2014, Russia imported 490,000mt of raws.

The white sugar price index in Russia's south rose 1,650 roubles to 26,950 roubles (US$740) per mt last week, according to the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies or Ikar, Reuters reports. Ikar’s general director is forecasting a rapid increase in prices for almost all agricultural products and says retail prices for sugar will increase by at least 10% in the next 4-5 months, WPS: Banking and Stock Exchange reports.
