IKAR in Mass and Industry Media Russian Sugar Production Seen by Ikar Holding at All-Time High Bloomberg May 7 (Bloomberg) -- Russian sugar production next season will probably stay close to the record high, according to farm industry researcher Ikar. Production was a record 4.4 million metric tons in the season that ended in March and began in August, according to Ikar analyst Yevgeny Ivanov. The beet planted area is likely to expand 2 percent to 920,000 hectares (2.3 million acres) this year, he said. This will not boost production because of a lack of moisture in the soil, he said. “There is the likelihood that the record yield of sugar beets in 2013 will go down in 2014,” Ivanov said. As of May 6, farmers sowed beets on 86 percent of the area designated for planting the root, a faster pace than last year’s, as spring arrived early, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said on its website. 15.05.14
