Strong supply and harvest forecast push down Russian wheat export prices, analysts say

Reuters

MOSCOW, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Russian wheat export prices fell last week amid a seasonal peak in supply and optimistic harvest forecasts.

The price for Russian wheat with 12.5% protein content for free-on-board (FOB) delivery in the second half of September was $235 a metric ton at the end of last week, down $3.50 from the previous week, said Dmitry Rylko, head of the IKAR consultancy.

"We are seeing a peak in seasonal supply in the northern hemisphere, while demand from importers is sluggish," he said.

The Sovecon consultancy estimated the price at $236 - 239 a metric ton, down $3 from the end of last week.

Analysts have raised their estimates of August exports: IKAR to between 3.5 and 3.8 million tons from 3.2-3.5 million tons it had predicted last week, and Sovecon to 4.0 million tons from 3.8 million.

Russia has already harvested more than 85 million metric tons of grain, including 64 million tons of wheat, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said on Friday. The official harvest forecast for 2025 remains at 135 million tons of grain.
