Raises 2025 Russian wheat crop forecast on improved prospects in Siberia and Urals

MOSCOW, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Grain consultancy Sovecon said on Wednesday it had raised its forecast for Russia's 2025 wheat crop to 85.4 million metric tons (mmt), up from a previous estimate of 85.2 million tons, citing improved prospects in Siberia and the Urals.

The wheat forecast was revised upward as yields in those regions are expected to approach record levels thanks to favorable weather, Sovecon analysts said in a note.

The overall grain and pulse production estimate remains unchanged at 130.5 million tons, Sovecon said.

It said it has raised its barley harvest forecast to 18.7 million tons from 18.0 million tons in July, after Russia's statistics agency revised data on the sown area. It lowered its corn forecast to 13.4 million tons from 14.3 million because of unfavorable weather in the south.

"Yields in non-southern regions continue to confirm our optimistic expectations", Andrey Sizov, head of SovEcon, said.

"However, while good crops may offset losses in the south, it will take time to deliver that wheat to Azov and Black Sea ports, complicating Russia’s export program over the next few months - often the key period of the season."

Russia's IKAR consultancy on Monday raised its 2025 wheat crop forecast to 85.5 million metric tons from 84.5 million tons previously.

The Ministry of Agriculture is currently forecasting a 2025 grain harvest of 135 million tons, including 88-90 million tons of wheat.
