Russian flour exports to China fall 21% in 7M, down 83% in July - Chinese customs

Interfax

MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - China imported $12.22 million worth of wheat and rye-wheat flour from Russia in January-July 2025, down 21% compared to the figure for the same period last year ($15.39 million), according to materials from China's General Administration of Customs.

However, despite the decline, Russia retained its second place in China's flour market after Japan, whose supplies amounted to $24 million, up almost 1.5-fold compared to last year.

In January-July, China imported flour from 14 countries, compared to 16 countries as of the end of 7M last year. The top 3 suppliers are rounded out by France, at $7.22 million.

In July, imports from Russia fell to $760,800 from $4.54 million a year earlier (down 83.3%).

Russia gained the right to export rye flour to China in May this year. As follows from the materials of the General Administration of Customs, supplies have not yet begun.

According to the Agroexport federal center, Russia exported almost 1.2 million tonnes of flour in 2024, up 3% from the previous year. In monetary terms, exports amounted to almost $300 million (+3%).

According to an estimate by the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR), this year's flour exports from Russia could amount to 80%-85% of the record figure for 2024.
