Russia May Become a Rye Importer Next Year, IKAR's Rylko Says

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Russia may start importing rye in 2012 amid poor expectations for winter crops of the grain this year, according to Dmitry Rylko, general director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies.

Winter sowing of rye was mostly inadequate because of a lack of moisture last year that will push prices up this year and may prompt Russia to become an importer in 2012, Rylko said today at a conference in Moscow organized by the institute, also known as IKAR. He did not elaborate on the amount of potential rye imports.
