IKAR in Mass and Industry Media Russia’s Raw Sugar Imports Climbed in 2010 on Weather, IKAR Says Bloomberg Jan. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Russia’s raw sugar imports advanced to 2.1 million metric tons in 2010 from 1.44 million tons a year earlier, the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies said. Shipments climbed on a reduction in domestic sugar-beet production caused by unfavorable weather, Yevgeny Ivanov, an analyst at the Moscow-based researcher, also known as IKAR, said today by phone. Russia suffered its worst drought in a half century last year. The country’s sugar output fell to 4.86 million tons last year from 5.11 million tons in 2009, Ivanov said. 28.01.11
