Russia- Russia exports first sugar shipment at Novorossiysk port

Russia shipped 5,970 mt of sugar by vessel from the country's Novorossiysk port during the week ended Friday, the country's first sugar shipment from the port, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

The shipment consists of sugar produced by the Uspensky, Liskinsky and Yelan-Kolenovsky plants and shipped to Syria by Prodimex, a top agricultural trading company in Russia. Sugar shipments to the port are continuing, with more exports by sea expected, Yevgeny Ivanov, chief analyst at Russia's Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, told Interfax.

The opening of the Novorossiysk port expands Russia's export access to countries beyond Mongolia, Afghanistan and the former Soviet republics.

Shipments from Russia previously depended on truck and rail, Ivanov added, according to Interfax.
